My Smiles : Part 2

7 September 2014

Friendship isn't about who you have known the longest, it's about who came and never left your side.

******

They say you can't choose your family but you can choose your friends.
To some point I disagree.
I would like to think destiny had already chosen our friendships and it was just up to us to find them.

You begin life with the whole world of friends and then life suddenly becomes that little bit more crazy and you start to understand who your best friends are.

We've all been there.
11 years old and the entire school is your friend, endless playmates, sharing different stories and ranting on about how the short kid in class is a rude lil' bastard.
14 years old and cliques start forming, you realise you have more in common with the girl that rocked that weird hairstyle in year 7 than you thought.
At 16 you promise all your friends that you'll stay in contact when you go to college and pre-arrange meet-ups only to find out that everyone is always busy... with their new friends.
But... you always leave with at least one good friend for life.

I had so many friends in school some I even speak to till this day, however my best friends were friends I made outside of school.
Growing up in an inner city area I grew close to my neighbours and the kids on the neighbouring estates.
Hanging out on the estate with nothing to do but chat sh*t and bully the ice-cream van who was terrified of entering the estate was probably the best times of my life.
Knock down ginger used to get us every time and I'm pretty sure someone always used to get caught.
And let's not forget the harmless penny sweet stealing from the local sweet shop, which I must say tasted oh that much sweeter knowing that I didn't have to spend my pocket money on it. (god forgive me for my sins).
Underage smoking and drinking was probably the highlight of my teens. And the crazy amount of naughtiness that used to get me arrested one to many times.

You then meet friends on your journey to becoming an adult.
And loosing some on the way.
Friendship form from work because you share similar interests.
And the endless nights out with people who automatically become your best friends.

One thing I have learned on my journey of friendship is that Drake lied... NO NEW FRIENDS doesn't apply.
Friends can be old or new it's who's there for you when the chips are down. I honestly never thought that you could create such strong friendships with people you have only known for a short time, but when you share the same morals and beliefs you realise that it was only a matter of time before we were destined to find each other.

My friends are not just my friends they are my family. We all share little pieces of each other inside of us which makes us even stronger. Although I already have a sister, they all feel like sisters to me and my life would never be the same with out them.

With that being said I wanted to introduce you to some of My Smiles. Some old and some new, but I love them all the same!
